The General Strike is a decentralized network of regular people who know our greatest power is our labor and our right to refuse it. Our memberships span every generation, race, gender, and geography—but one thing is clear: the systems we are fighting are not separate. They are one.

We are living under a corporate oligarchy that has rigged our economy and our democracy to serve the ultra-wealthy, while working people, poor communities, and the planet are pushed toward collapse. From the violent deportations of American immigrants, to the stripping of trans rights, from the climate catastrophe to our constitutional crisis — these are not isolated crises. They are symptoms of a system that puts profit over people, control over freedom, and fascism over democracy.

We believe that the only way to confront this system is together. And the most powerful tool we have is the withdrawal of our labor.

That is why we declare our public support for a General Strike.

We believe it is time for a mass mobilization of working-class people across this country—not only to demand better wages and safer workplaces, but to build a new system rooted in justice, care, and collective power. A general strike is how we say: you cannot run this country without us.

We know that organizing a general strike is not simple. It will require courage, coordination, and strategy. It will require education and risk. But history shows us that no liberation has ever been granted without mass resistance. Now is our time to rise.

We call on labor unions, grassroots movements, student groups, tenant associations, and every person who believes a better world is possible to join us by signing onto this letter.

Who is General Strike US?

We are not one singular organization. We are a network of regular people, united by our shared values, committed to a General Strike to radically change our country.

Two friends living in New York City made this website after Roe V. Wade was overturned in 2022, but the concept of a General Strike dates back centuries.

The General Strike is a decentralized network of people and organizations committed to striking once we reach 3.5% of the U.S. population, or 11 million people. We don’t have a traditional “leader” or hierarchical structure, and no one gets paid to do this work. Instead we have an ever shifting network of organizers, all building towards the General Strike in their own ways. Check out our values for more info, and join us!
