May Day: Syndicalists Against the Extreme Right and the Wars of Capitalism

CGT || This May 1st, 2026, marks the 90th anniversary of the Social Revolution of 1936. A landmark in the struggle of the anti-fascist and libertarian working class, it built a reality of social transformation and freedom. Even today, it serves as an example in our daily fight against capitalism.

In a global context of war and dehumanization, which goes hand in hand with the rise of far-right fascism internationally, we see how the forceful appropriation of resources and territories belonging to others takes us back to the warmongering policies of the early 20th century. We are now closer than ever to a new “world war” and nuclear disaster. The economic elites and the US government are returning to the times of the Monroe Doctrine, threatening the entire American continent. And, together with the Zionist state of Israel, they are breaking the few remaining norms of international law, displacing millions of people, destroying infrastructure of all kinds, massacring defenseless populations, bombing schools and hospitals… provoking a genocide in Palestine and spreading death and destruction in Lebanon, Iran, and throughout the Middle East.

We do not forget the people of Kurdistan, Ukraine, Sudan, the Sahara, and so many other places suffering wars and extermination at the hands of warmongering states. A small capitalist elite has seized control of the world’s population through manipulation, deception, threats, and violence, violating the human and social rights of the working class and the population at large. They attack groups for ideological reasons: environmentalists, migrants, people of color, feminists, trans people, or anyone who is different.

From the General Confederation of Labor, as a combative and anarcho-syndicalist organization, we promote class unity and the convergence of antifascism and antimilitarism. Without this unity of action, we cannot confront this savage capitalism that grips and divides us.

CGT is the organization that promotes the most struggles and strikes throughout the country. We fight against the loss of wage purchasing power due to rising prices, job insecurity, workplace accidents, the gender pay gap, the privatization of all public services, environmental destruction, and military spending.

• We advocate reducing the working day to 30 hours.
• We defend decent public pensions without a pay gap. We denounce their privatization.
• We defend the right to decent housing for all people.
• We defend the right to regularization of migrants, one of the most
  discriminated populations along with other racialized groups.
• CGT does not forget this May 1st the increase in gender violence suffered by women and their families
• descendants. We demand an end to this scourge and to patriarchal society.
• CGT is committed to the struggle in our workplaces and in the streets. Only through organization
  and mutual support will we be able to sweep away the inequalities imposed on us by capitalism and the
• patriarchy.
