Republicans, and many Democrats, embraced the War on Terror, assuming the victims would be Muslims. Under Trump, white nationalism has become mainstream, and the war has finally come home.
The Left Hook || Fascists come for everyone in the end. Like the schoolyard bully, they first pick on whom they assume to be the weakest and most vulnerable member of the community. They surround them with a few of their friends and make a public display of violence, intimidation, and authority.
The message is clear: defy us, and we’ll come after you next.
Unfortunately, many Americans who observe this spectacle of cruelty delude themselves into thinking they’ll be safe. After all, they aren’t transgender athletes, undocumented immigrants, pro-Palestinian activists, or Black people in the South. Sure, they might have some Muslim and Jewish friends, and they find much of this behavior distasteful, but, hey, everyone has problems, and life is hard. Just put your head down, work hard, get paid, and you’ll be safe, is the American mantra. If someone isn’t dying on my lawn, then it isn’t my business.
Except, sadly, it is, because the violence against one of our communities ultimately boomerangs and lands in your neighborhood with masked, armed ICE agents harassing your kids and killing your white neighbor.
I decided to take some time before getting to the lede, which involves a tragic shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego that resulted in five deaths. The two teenage shooters were also killed, and they seem to have been radicalized by white supremacist ideologies, conspiracies, and talking points that have now become mainstream thanks to Trump and the modern GOP.
Unhinged, anti-Muslim bigot Laura Loomer, who is a close ally and confidante of Donald Trump, didn’t let a tragic shooting deter her from tweeting Islamophobic filth. She doubled down on her desire to deport all Muslims from this country. There has been no censure of GOP elected officials who have recently referred to American Muslims as enemies who need to be removed or killed.
We know Republicans are lost, but what about the Democrats?
They’ve been complicit in their silence. Democratic elected officials continue to appear on bigot Bill Maher’s show and never disagree with his comments on Palestinians and Muslims. For the past month, pro-Israel Democrats and liberal donors have coordinated an attack on Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. Some Democrats and their donors joined the right-wing in relentlessly attacking Zohran Mamdani, and they asked him to condemn a pro-Palestinian chant he had never used. Nearly two dozen Dems joined Republicans in censuring the only Palestinian in the House, their colleague Rashida Tlaib.
It’s springtime for Hitler and MAGA.
Over the weekend, Jake Lang, a Nazi sympathizer and January 6th insurrectionist, flew a white supremacist flag at the Washington Nationals game. He has led anti-Islam rallies against Mamdani in NYC. He’s set to be funded by taxpayer dollars after the Justice Department allowed Trump to create a $1.8 billion terrorist slush fund.
